Class 35 Hydrogen is circulated in a totally enclosed generator by two fans 4, 4' and the flows of the two streams of cooling gas are so directed that they first flow axially through channels A, A', B, B' (channel B' is illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown), then between separating walls 9 and radial stator slots 7. Both streams are diverted at the centre of the machine so that they cross each other, since each stream is arranged to flow from one end of the machine to the other end. There are two diametrically opposite coolers 6', 6 located in recesses in the machine casing at each end. Even when one of the coolers is inoperative, the gas is still adequately cooled by the cooler located at the other end of the machine.
