The fuel pump has a plunger assembly which is supported at cam or eccentric cam of a drive shaft. The pump piston (1) is driven against the spring force of a return spring which is supported against a spring plate of plunger assembly. The spring plate is engaged with a piston base (7) of pump piston. A bearing element (8) made of elastically deformable material is arranged between spring plate and piston base of the pump piston.
