Disclosed is a method of cremation of foetal remains. The method comprises disposing the remains in a combustible container 40 sized for foetal remains. The container is then placed in a foetal cremation chamber 20a that is suitably sized for the cremation of foetal remains. The chamber is heated and supplied with oxygen so that combustion of the foetal remains and container occurs. The oxygen supply is without sufficient turbulence to displace solid remains of the combustion. By that means, solid ash remains may be retrieved from the foetal cremation chamber after the combustion is complete. The foetal cremation chamber may be one of several, sharing a common heat source, for example hot gas from combustion of a fuel circulated under said several chambers, or it may be a single foetal cremation chamber, comprising an electrically heated hearth floor. In another embodiment, the chamber is in the form of a pod constructed from refractory material capable of withstanding and conducting the heat of a normal cremation or incineration chamber. It comprises air vents to allow inflow of oxygen into the chamber to support combustion of the chamber contents, and evolution of exhaust gas from the chamber.
|
