PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary compressor reduced in input loss by reducing a sliding loss which is generated when a vane reciprocates in a vane groove. SOLUTION: The rotary compressor includes a cylinder 5 having a cylinder chamber 6, a piston 9 performing rocking motion in the cylinder chamber 6, a shaft 4 having an eccentric part 4A suitable for the piston 9, a vane 11 for partitioning the inside of the cylinder chamber 6 into a suction chamber 12 and a compression space 13 and the vane groove 10 formed in the cylinder 5 and reciprocating the vane 11, and constituted by rockingly connecting a tip 11A of the vane 11 to the piston 9. The rotary compressor can be provided so that, from an inner peripheral surface 9A of the piston 9, in a sliding surface opposed to the eccentric part 4A of the shaft 4, a narrow part smaller in width than the other part is formed in the height direction of the piston 9 at the suction chamber side of the cylinder chamber 6, and the rotation moment acting on the piston 9 can be reduced, and the sliding loss is reduced, and the input loss is reduced.
