PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an initialization method and an initialization device for a printer memory, capable of enhancing an efficiency of initialization processing. SOLUTION: This method/device includes a reading-out step for reading out a frame written in the memory by a prescribed processing unit, drawing data detecting steps S400-S470 for monitoring the processing unit read out in the reading-out step, to detect the presence of the drawing data, and an initialization step S480 for initialization-processing the processing unit on the memory, as to only the processing unit with the drawing data detected in the drawing data detecting steps.
