PURPOSE: A device for controlling a robot and a method thereof are provided to determine the position of an elbow of a robot so that a direction vector V1 is identical to a direction vector V2, thereby operating the robot to move like humans move. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling a robot comprises an image acquisition unit (310), a driving unit (330) and a control unit (320). The image acquisition unit obtains a three-dimensional image of the user of a robot. The driving unit operates the arms of the robot which have multiple joints. The control unit produces a user model corresponding to the movement of the joints of the user based on the three-dimensional image. The control unit produces a target model where the length of the joints is able to be changed based on the user model. The control unit operates the robot arms based on the target model.
