PURPOSE: A plug socket apparatus for cutting standby power and a control method thereof are provided to reduce malfunction, by judging standby state and usage state of an electronic product, by measuring a current supplied to the electronic product accurately and calculating the current active power consumed in the electronic product, without using an expensive Hall sensor. CONSTITUTION: A plug outlet controller (150) receives a first voltage value amplified in a first differential amplifier and a second voltage value amplified in a second differential amplifier, and detects zero cross point of a commercial power source. The plug outlet controller calculates current active power by referring to the detected zero cross point, and detects standby state of the electronic product through comparison between the calculated current active power and reference power value, and controls a relay driving circuit (121).
