The present invention relates to apparatus, system, and method for power harvesting from railroads using piezoelectric generators. One embodiment of the invention provides a system comprising a plurality of piezoelectric devices, each embedded in a recess in the railroad sleeper under the rail, wherein the piezoelectric device comprises a plurality of piezoelectric rods embedded in a matrix, for example made of epoxy binder. Another embodiment of the invention provides a system comprising a plurality of piezoelectric devices attached to railroad rails. The piezoelectric devices are configured to produce electrical power when a train traverses their locations. The system may further comprise a power conditioning unit and electrical conductors connecting the piezoelectric devices to the power conditioning unit. Harvested energy may be used locally in proximity to the energy generation location, stored for later use, or transferred to be used in remote location.
