A process for the preparation of ethyl benzene hydroperoxide involves liquid-phase oxidation of ethyl benzene with oxygen in the presence of catalyst system comprising cobalt naphthenate and additive. Polyoxyethylene glycol with average molecular weight 2000 is used as an additive at mass ratio of cobalt naphthenate : polyoxyethylene glycol as 1:1.
