PURPOSE: A mobile terminal and a controlling method thereof are provided to efficiently manage items which are arranged in a home screen. CONSTITUTION: A touch screen indicates a home screen. The touch screen selectively provides a specific area which displays one or more items capable of being arranged in the home screen. A control unit (180) controls the display of the specific area based on a user input. If a first item which is displayed in the specific area is dragged to the home screen, the control unit adds the first item to the home screen. The control unit groups the added first item with one or more second items which are arranged in the home screen.
