The device has a protection ring (9) for protecting a wheel bearing against substances or foreign materials e.g. water. The protection ring is placed near an inner side of the wheel bearing opposite to a wheel and in a space defined between a bore of a wheel hub support (1) and a transmission shaft so as to limit passage of the foreign materials or substances towards the wheel bearing. The protection ring is fixed to the hub support through a fixing element (10) of a rotational speed sensor (C) of the wheel.
