PURPOSE: A fault current apparatus and method are provided to prevent the excessive flow of a fault current through a resonance circuit in the event of an accident, thereby controlling easily an amount of the fault current. CONSTITUTION: A serial circuit is comprised in series. The serial circuit comprises a capacitor (130), an inductor (140), and a semiconductor device (150). A variable resistor (120) is connected to both ends of the serial circuit in parallel. A control unit (110) controls the operation of the semiconductor device. The control unit controls the size of the variable resistor. The control unit detects whether an abnormal voltage occurs in a power system equipped with a fault current control apparatus.
