Provided is a system for printing a label identifying a medicinal substance and documenting a quantity of the medicinal substance administered to a patient. The system includes a code reader that interrogates a computer-readable code representing the medicinal substance that corresponds to a source container of the medicinal substance at a time when the medicinal substance is to be extracted from the source container. A non- transitory, local computer-readable memory stores a drug formulary that is referenced by a processing component to identify the medicinal substance. A printer prints label content identifying the medicinal substance onto a label to be applied to a delivery container. A quantity detector senses a property indicative of a quantity of the medicinal substance administered to the patient in real time, approximately at a time when the medicinal substance is administered to the patient.
