The adapter element has a set of two or more connecting pieces (1) for engagement in recesses of a sanitary fitting. Another set of connecting pieces (7) are arranged in parallel with the former set of connecting pieces for connecting apertures of a base block of a flush-mounted sanitary fitting. A fixing device fixes the latter set of connecting pieces on the base block. Each of the connecting pieces from the former set of connecting pieces discharges guides a water flow to an associated connecting piece from the latter set of connecting pieces. An independent claim is also included for a terminal assembly of a surface-mounted sanitary fitting.
