PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of applying an appropriate charging bias without delaying the time up to image output even when the driving speed during an initial rotation at the power turning ON is different from that during image forming.SOLUTION: Control means performs a first control to apply plural AC voltages each having a different peak-to-peak voltage to charging means during an initial rotation to detect each AC current value flowing through an image carrier. During a startup rotation from a ready state up to the beginning of image formation upon receiving an image signal, the control means applies an AC voltage to the charging means to detect an AC current value flowing through the image carrier. The control means performs a second control to determine a peak-to-peak voltage of the AC voltage applied during the image forming based on the detected AC current value. The peak-to-peak voltage of the AC voltage applied to the charging means during the second control is changed depending on the AC current value obtained by the first control. |
