摘要 The method involves impressing external preset cell voltage at fuel cells (10, 20) at an impressing time point (t0) in which the fuel cells do not deliver power. Voltage gradient is monitored based on the impressing time point. A macroscopic and/or microscopic short circuit within the fuel cells is identified by significance of the voltage gradient. The macroscopic and/or microscopic short circuit within a fuel cell stack is identified and located. The significance of the voltage gradient of the macroscopic short circuit is characterized based on the time point. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell or a fuel cell stack.
