The method involves assembling module retainers (5) with modules (7) so that electric contacts (9) are electrically connected with other contacts of the modules. The retainers are displaced together with the modules into an automatic assembling machine (1) so that the modules are arranged in an assembling position (11). Ends of lines are fed and brought into contact with the former contacts by the machine to form a line arrangement. An electrical characteristic between selected pairs of the contacts is measured. A fault is determined in the arrangement. The determined fault is rectified. The module is a plug connector. An independent claim is also included for an assembling machine.
