PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for efficiently discharging mud and sand deposited in a ballast tank.SOLUTION: A sand removal device for removing mud and sand deposited in a ballast tank in a ship with a water injection/drainage means 21 that injects and drains seawater includes: a nozzle 19 that is arranged near a tank floor plate 11 of a partition tank 15 formed by partitioning a space of the ballast tank by a garter 13 and a floor 14 and sprays the water; and a pressure water pipe 17 that supplies water to the nozzle. The mud and sand piled up in the partition tank is scattered with the water jetted from the nozzle in the partition tank, and the mixing water in which the muds and sands are suspended/dispersed can be discharged by the water injection/drainage means. |
