PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for driving a vehicular openable cover, the controller being capable of more accurately detecting pinching of a foreign matter on the basis of assumed reaction force or the like, when the openable cover is driven to be closed.SOLUTION: Pinching of a foreign matter is detected as a state in which a rotational speed difference DN that is a deviation between a rotational speed of a motor detected in an idle running period and a current rotational speed of the motor detected thereafter falls below a detection threshold Th stored in a memory. Reference threshold ThB changes in accordance with stroke St of the motor such that it coincides with a predetermined fully-closed state threshold Thc corresponding to a fully-closed state of the openable cover, at a stroke St2 of the motor at which the openable cover is presumed to be in its fully-closed state. The detection threshold Th is obtained by shifting the reference threshold ThB by a deviation &Dgr;St between the stroke St2 and an actual stroke St4 of the motor such that the shifted threshold coincides with the fully-closed state threshold Thc at the actual stroke St4 of the motor corresponding to the fully-closed state of the openable cover detected in a predetermined period.
