<p>Provided is a novel method for polarizing a terahertz electromagnetic wave using a light polarizer. This method uses a light polarizer to polarize an electromagnetic wave having a frequency of 0.1-0.8 THz. This method is equipped with a step (a) and a step (b). In step (a), a light polarizer having a sapphire single-crystal layer (11) and a CaxCoO2 crystal layer (12) is prepared. The CaxCoO2 crystal layer (12) is stacked on the sapphire single-crystal layer (11), the surface of the CaxCoO2 crystal layer (12) has a (010) plane orientation, and the CaxCoO2 crystal layer (12) has a thickness of 2-20 mum. In step (b), the light polarizer is exposed to an electromagnetic wave having a frequency of 0.1-0.8 THz, and an output wave having only a component that is parallel to the c-axis direction of the sapphire single-crystal layer (11) is emitted.</p> |
