PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device which can further effectively reduce speckles.SOLUTION: A plurality of rectangular shaped lens cells are arranged in an x direction and y direction on an integrator 25. Laser beams emitted by laser sources 21R, 21G, and 21B are radiated to the integrator 25. A beam radiation position displacing unit 54 scans the surface of the integrator 25 with the laser beams in the x and y directions so as to sequentially irradiate the plurality of lens cells with the laser beams. A reflection type liquid crystal element 34 modulates the laser beams emitted by the integrator 25. A projection lens 37 projects the laser beams modulated by the reflection type liquid crystal element 34.
