PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound useful as a contrast medium having improved properties, compared with known media, with respect to one or more of kidney toxicity, weight osmolarity, viscosity and solubility, and to provide the use of such a diagnostic composition as a contrast agent for diagnostic imaging, particularly, X-ray imaging, and a contrast medium containing the compound.SOLUTION: A compound is represented by general formula R-N(CHO)-X-N(R)-R, and includes two bonded iodinated phenyl groups, wherein X represents optionally-substituted alkylene, Rrepresents hydrogen atom or acyl functional group, and each R represents triiodinated phenyl residue substituted in a hydrophilic moiety.
