PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress increase of noise or vibration of a hermetic compressor by avoiding a resonant vibration of a shaft system in which a support member 172 of a thrust ball bearing 176 is allowed to be a spring element even if a shaft assembly is rapidly rotating at a frequency exceeding a commercial power frequency.SOLUTION: A hermetic compressor 100 is provided with an electrical element 110, a compression element 112, and a hermetic container 102. The compression element is provided with a shaft 118, a cylinder block 124, a piston 130, and a ball bearing 176. The ball bearing is provided with a holder 168, a plurality of rolling bodies 166, a first raceway 164, a second raceway 170, and a support member 172. When a mass of a shaft assembly 118a including both a rotor 116 and the shaft is denoted by M, the spring constant of the support member is denoted by K, and the maximum rotational frequency of the shaft assembly is denoted by F, a relationship of F<(1/4&pgr;)×(K/M)^0.5 is satisfied. |
