The packaging machine has a foil unit (10) with a foil blade (12) and a foil withdrawal element (14), a stationary machine frame, on which the foil blade is movably mounted, and a drive element (18) for moving the foil withdrawal element. The drive element is formed for moving the foil blade relative to the machine frame. A drive belt (20) stays in an operative connection with the drive element. The drive element is formed as a single servo drive. The movement of the foil withdrawal element and the relative movement between the foil blade and the machine frame are effected by the drive belt. An independent claim is included for a method of moving a foil blade relative to a machine frame, particularly by a packaging machine.
