Apparatus and methods are described herein for monitoring multiple paging channels at a mobile station. A mobile station may monitor a primary paging channel and an optimized secondary paging channel to receive signals from a base station. The mobile station may process overhead data messages received in signals over the primary paging channel. The mobile station may process any mobile-station specific messages received in signals over the optimized secondary paging channel.
