An optical transmitter comprises: a drive signal generator for generating a drive signal from input data; an optical modulator for generating an optical signal corresponding to the drive signal, the optical modulator having light intensity/voltage properties where the intensity of output light changes periodically with respect to an applied voltage; a superimposer for superimposing a first reference signal onto the drive signal and superimposing a second reference signal onto a bias voltage of the optical modulator; a detector for detecting the first reference signal and second reference signal included in the optical signal, and generating a first monitor signal indicative of the intensity and phase of the detected first reference signal and a second monitor signal indicative of the intensity and phase of the detected second reference signal; and a controller for controlling the bias voltage of the optical modulator in a format determined on the basis of the first monitor signal and the second monitor signal. |
