摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure necessary strength while promoting further frame-narrowing of a surface lighting device.SOLUTION: A sidewall 16d of a frame 16 rising to a light emitting surface 12a side of a light guide plate 12 from a bottom section 16a is not arranged along connecting side faces 12d for connecting a light incident surface 12c and an opposite surface 12e of the light guide plate 12. Thus, a frame of a surface lighting device 10 is narrowed or eliminated in a width direction between at least a pair of connecting side faces 12d by making a width between the pair of connecting side faces 12d which connect the light incident surface 12c and the opposite surface 12e of the light guide plate 12 match with a width of an object to be illuminated such as an LCD. Further, projections 16f widened in a thickness direction of the light guide plate 12 are arranged on at least two locations along the connecting side faces 12d of the light guide plate 12, and notches 12f for storing the projections 16f are formed on the connecting side faces 12d of the light guide plate 12. Positioning can be performed on the basis of such complementary recessed and projecting shapes.
