Provided is a support device for supporting easier exchange of data among PLCs, in a manner independent of the classes of the PLCs communicating with one another. The support device includes: a first input part for receiving information defining a variable separate from the data handled by a first programmable logic controller; a second input part for receiving a source program describing by a defined variable, a process for execution by the first programmable logic controller; a third input part for receiving information identifying the class of a second programmable logic controller in association with the first variable; and a generating part for using the source program and the information defining the variable to generate an executable program. According to the class of the second programmable logic controller, the generating part optimizes the data structure of first data which is held in memory and corresponds to the first variable.
