The present invention appropriately supplies an additive. This exhaust purification device of an internal combustion engine is provided with: an exhaust purification catalyst (4) provided to the exhaust pathway (2) of an internal combustion engine (1); a tank (32) that stores an additive in a solid or liquid state; a gasification device (38) that gasifies the additive by means of heating; and a supply pathway (31) that connects the tank (32) and the exhaust pathway (2) at the upstream side of the exhaust purification catalyst (4) and through which the gaseous additive flows. The exhaust purification device of an internal combustion engine is provided with: a dilution device (5) that dilutes the gaseous additive with another gas at the supply pathway (31); and a metering device (3) that, at the supply pathway (31) after dilution by means of the dilution device (5), adjusts the amount of additive supplied to the exhaust pathway (2) from the supply pathway (31).
