Provided is a wire transport device that stretches and transports wire between a wire feed roller and a wire collection roller and comprises: a wire feed roller peripheral speed calculation unit (91a) and a wire collection roller peripheral speed calculation unit (91b) that respectively calculate the peripheral speeds of the wire feed roller and the wire collection roller on the basis of the change amounts of a wire feed roller position FB value (71) and a wire collection roller position FB value (81) from the encoder for the wire feed roller and the encoder for the wire collection roller; a peripheral speed difference-maintaining unit (93) that calculates the difference between the peripheral speed of the wire feed roller and the peripheral speed of the wire collection roller as a peripheral speed difference and maintains the calculated peripheral speed difference; and a wire feed roller speed control unit (95) and a wire collection roller speed control unit (98) that, when changing the wire transport speed, respectively control the wire feed roller and the wire collection roller using a wire feed roller speed command value and a wire collection roller speed command value that are generated so that the difference in peripheral speed between the rollers is the same peripheral speed difference as before the change in the wire transport speed.
