Provided are a press-fit terminal that exhibits high whisker resistance, requires a low insertion force, is unlikely to cause shaving of plating when inserting the press-fit terminal into a substrate, and has high heat resistance, and an electronic component that utilizes the press-fit terminal. The press-fit terminal has a female terminal connection part which is provided at one side of an attachment section to be attached to a housing and a substrate connection part which is provided at the other side, and is attached to the substrate by press-fitting the substrate connection part into a through-hole which is formed in the substrate, wherein the press-fit terminal is characterized in that at least the substrate connection part has the following surface structure and exhibits high whisker resistance. That is, the surface structure comprises a layer A that is formed as the outmost layer and constituted of Sn, In, or an alloy thereof, a layer B that is formed below the layer A and constituted of one, two, or more kinds of elements selected from a group comprising Ag, Au, Pt, Pd, Ru, Rh, Os, and Ir, and a layer C that is formed below the layer B and constituted of one, two, or more kinds of elements selected from a group comprising Ni, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, and Cu, wherein the thickness of the layer A is 0.002 - 0.2µm, the thickness of the layer B is 0.001 - 0.3µm, and the thickness of the layer C is 0.05µm or greater. |
