PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain luminance unevenness.SOLUTION: A backlight device (lighting device) 12 includes a chassis 14 having a light emission part 14b for emitting light; LEDs (light sources) 17 stored in the chassis 14 and having a lengthened light-emitting bodies 23 and having anisotrophy on a light-distributing distribution of light emitted toward the light emission part 14b; and an installed diffusion plate 15a as an optical member arranged on the light emission part 14b side against the LEDs 17 and emitting light by giving a complementary optical action to the light from the LEDs 17 to complement the light-distributing distribution of the LEDs 17 in a direction crossing the length direction of the light-emitting bodies 23.
