Provided is a mat for retaining a water-absorbent sheet, whereby a water-absorbent sheet can be easily and reliably retained. A mat (M) for retaining a water-absorbent sheet retains a water-absorbent sheet (Sa) having a first polygonal outline, wherein the mat (M) is provided with: a mat section (Pm) having a second polygonal outline, which is defined by a mutually opposing first main surface (St) and second main surface (Sb); and at least one retaining section (Pr) where a slit section (S) having at least one slit into which a part of an edge of the water-absorbent sheet is inserted is formed on an upper surface (Sru) to be a predetermined height higher than the first main surface, the water-absorbent sheet being placed atop the first main surface, thus achieving the aforementioned objective.
