An apparatus is provided for monitoring a person within a specific environment. The apparatus uses three dimensional thermal sensors (thermopile arrays) to monitor the movement of a person in three dimensions. This movement data is communicated to a remote control unit where it is analysed and assessed by software within the unit. A non-intrusive schematic representation of the detected person is displayed on a graphic map representation of the environment. If the software detects and identifies a preset condition, for example a lack of movement of the person for a set period, or the person in a predetermined orientation, then an alarm condition is triggered. This alarm is communicated to a user who can then assess the situation. The alarm may be sent as a text or email, or may comprise an audible or visual alarm. The environment may comprise a building and/or a plurality of rooms located within a building. The schematic representation may show the current location of a person within a room. |
