PURPOSE: A removing agent of hydrogen peroxide (H_2O_2) containing magnesium-protoporphyrin IX (MPP) as an active ingredient and to be used as a physiologically active substance of various organisms by reducing hydrogen peroxide toxicity in bacteria or mammalian cells through the activation of peroxidase. CONSTITUTION: A removing agent of intracellular and extracellular hydrogen peroxide contains MPP as an active ingredient. MPP removes hydrogen peroxide by the activity of peroxidase. The cells are bacteria or mammalian cells. A method for reducing intracellular or extracellular toxicity comprises the step of adding MPP in a concentration of 1-20 uM.
