The flotation reagent is added to the pulp or to the raw material dispersed in a very large volume of water (i.e. 1 part of reagent to more than 50 parts of water), the volume of the dispersion forming not less than one-fifth by volume of the total mass thus resulting. The material is then aerated in a flotation cell. When the raw material is added in a dry state a considerably greater portion of dispersion will be added thereto in order to secure a satisfactory pulp. The dispersion may be added in such a manner that it attaches itself preferentially to a selected part of the material under treatment, for example to a separated or partially separated fraction which is then mixed with the remainder of the pulp. An apparatus comprising an alluvial trough and a streamline entry for the dispersion, with a subsequent turbulent zone, is described. |
