The method involves connecting a longitudinal section (5) to a front longitudinal section (6) toward an end of a heating mandrel (4). An end of the longitudinal section is in contact with an inner side of an end section of a pipe while heating the end section of the pipe. An end of the end section of the pipe to be heated is in contact with outer heating jaws (2, 3) and the mandrel while heating the end section of the pipe. The mandrel is removed before forming a sleeve from a plastic raw and after heating the end portion of a plastic pipe (1). An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for heating an end section of a plastic pipe.
