<p>The system, e.g. for supplying the inert gas to aircraft fuel tanks 52, receives air from a relatively low pressure source such as low pressure engine bleed air or ram air 82 and comprises a positive displacement compressor 40 to increase the pressure thereof supplying an air separation module 48. The positive displacement compressor 40 comprises a high pressure ratio single stage supercharger with internal cooling provided by a heat exchanger 46 cooled by cabin waste air, ram air &c. Alternatively, an intercooler can lie between two compressors of a multi-stage arrangement. An output from the air separation module 48 can be directed to supply power and/or pressure to other aircraft components.</p> |
