Embodiments of the invention provide a user device comprising a touch screen display 402 having a touch screen input 403; a proximity detector arrangement 404 comprising a plurality of sensors for detecting a location of an input device; and a control unit 407 comprising a processor 405. The control unit is configured to receive data from the proximity detector to determine the location of the input device, including a value related to the distance of the input device to the display; and control the display to perform a zoom function to enlarge or reduce the size of content on a portion of the display based on the value related to the distance of the input device to the display. The proximity detector arrangement and control unit are configured to detect the location of the input device within a detection volume and to provide a gradual variation in enlargement or reduction of the size of content as the distance of the input device to the display varies. Providing a gradual variation in zoom allows for a more precise and enjoyable user experience.
