The invention relates to a device (1 ) for directly or indirectly applying a liquid to pasty application medium in the form of at least one free falling curtain (3) to a moveable material web, in particular fibrous web (F), said device (1) having at least one application unit (2) arranged in a housing (7) and means (15) which are arranged upstream of the application unit (2) when seen in the direction of flow of the material web and which are used to reduce an air boundary layer which can form on a surface (4) of the material web. The invention is characterised in that the means (15) for reducing an air boundary layer which can form on a surface (4) of the material web, are mounted directly upstream of, when seen in the direction of flow, the inlet (11) of said material web in the housing (7) and comprises at least one device (16, 16.1, 16.2, 16.11 -16.1 n) associated with a surface (4) of the material web for applying a fluid jet directed to a surface (4) of the material web. |
