PURPOSE: A power control system and a method for operating the same are provided to reduce power consumption increasing according to highly integrated specifications of electronic appliances by an operation subdivided by a power mode. CONSTITUTION: A power control system comprises a host device (100) capable of operating in one mode between a high power mode consuming fist power and a low power mode consuming second power; a power mode selection unit (110) setting a power mode of a storage device according to a power mode of the host device; and the storage device (200) capable of operating in one mode between the high power mode consuming third power and the low power mode consuming fourth power.
