The device (1) has traction units (10, 11) i.e. ropes, for lifting and lowering masses (12, 13), where the masses are arranged at the traction units in a height-adjustable manner. Driving wheel arrangements are wound at the traction units. Pulley-blocks (16, 17) are arranged between the driving wheel arrangements and masses. The traction units commonly form the pulley-blocks. The driving wheel arrangements are unwound from the traction units. Driving wheels (14a, 14b, 15a, 15b) are arranged at common drive axes (18a, 18b) in a rotatable manner. An independent claim is also included for a steep conveyer system.
