A paper feeding apparatus (71) is provided with: a paper stacking base (74), which has a plurality of paper sheets stacked thereon, and which is brought up and down in the direction in which the paper sheets are stacked; a paper transfer member (for instance, a paper transfer belt (81)), which sucks and transfers the paper sheets stacked on the paper stacking base (74); a separating fan (88), which generates an air flow for separating the paper sheets stacked on the paper stacking base (74); a suction fan (84) for generating an air flow for sucking the paper sheets stacked on the paper stacking base (74); and a relay duct (87) for guiding air released from the suction fan (84) to the separating fan (88). The relay duct (87) is formed in a shape of a straight line that connects between an air release port (84b) of the suction fan (84) and a suction port (88a) of the separating fan (88).
