PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large and long main roll for wire saws, which is light in weight, suppressed in deflection even under a large load, small in a load on a drive motor, and in particular, capable of cutting an silicon ingot used for manufacturing a solar battery at high-speed rotation and with high accuracy.SOLUTION: A main roll 1 for a wire saw includes a cylindrical roll body 10, an exterior body 20 formed of a urethane resin as an outermost cylinder which is provided on an outer circumferential surface of the roll body 10 and having a wire groove 21, and bosses 30 integrally arranged on both ends in the axial direction of the roll body 10. The roll body 10 has a composite structure consisting of an inner cylindrical steel tube 10a, and an outer cylindrical carbon fiber-reinforced plastic pipe 10b provided on an outer circumferential surface of the inner cylindrical steel tube 10a. |
