The method relates to a method for in particular cyclical formation of portions of fibrous material, in particular tobacco, and for in particular cyclical filling of receptacles (12) of a conveyor (13) with the formed portions, in which: the weight of a good portion (35) of the fibrous material to be filled into one of the receptacles (12) must satisfy a predetermined condition; a pre-portioned rough portion (17) of the fibrous material is supplied to a rough portion weighing member (19a, 19b) and weighed with the rough portion weighing member (19a, 19b); if the weight of the weighed rough portion (17) does not satisfy the predetermined condition, a sufficient amount of fibrous material is added to the rough portion (17) so that the total weight of the rough portion (17) and the additional quantity satisfies the predetermined condition; and the rough portion (17) together with this additional quantity is filled as a good portion (35) into one of the receptacles (12) of the conveyor (13). The method is characterised in that, depending upon the predetermined condition to be satisfied, a fine portion (34) of fibrous material corresponding to the additional amount to be added is weighed out and subsequently added to the weighed rough portion (17) in order to form the good portion (35).
