The electrical machine (1) has a housing (8) comprising a stator (4) and a rotor (3) between which an air gap (6) is provided. The housing has an inner side that is provided with two axially extending grooves (9a,9b) that are engaged with ribs (10a-10c) provided at outer surface of stator. A control unit (11) is arranged for detecting a fault in the excitation magnetic field and for controlling actuator (13) in case of error.
