Abstract 5 Shown and described is a protective helmet comprising a helmet body, a respirator mask and a first and a second mask retaining device that are attached on opposite sides of the helmet body and are provided to connect with the first and second mask support arm of the respirator mask, 10 in which at least one mask retaining device is provided with a retaining device engagement section (1, 1') and where at least one mask support arm is provided with a support arm engagement section (21, 25), in which the retaining device engagement section (1, l') and the 15 support arm engagement section (21, 25) are able to engage along an engagement direction (31), in which the retaining device engagement section (1, 1') comprises a base plate (3), a U-shaped abutment wall (7) with a bottom section (11), where said U-shaped abutment wall 20 (7) extends perpendicular to base plate (3), two each other opposing side sections (9a, 9b) and a cover plate (5). The object to provide a protective helmet with a retaining device engagement section that can be connected not only with a rounded but also with a square-shaped 25 support arm engagement section of the support arm of a respirator mask in a secure and simple manner is achieved in that the each other facing inner surfaces (13a, 13b) of side sections (9a, 9b) initially extend in a curved path, where the distance between the each other facing 30 inner surfaces (13a, 13b) of side sections (9a, 9b) reduces in the direction towards the bottom section (11), and then assumes a straight path parallel to engagement direction (31), and that the inner surface (15) of bottom section (11) that faces opening (33) extends straight, perpendicular to engagement direction (31).
