[Problem] To provide a method for producing a sphingoid base-containing extract, and a functional food or pharmaceutical composition containing the resulting extract. [Solution] This method for producing a sphingoid base-containing extract comprises: (1) a step for extracting lipids, including sphingolipids, from a natural product; (2) a step for chromatographically fractionating from the extract obtained in step (1) to obtain glycosphingolipids; and (3) a step for acid-hydrolyzing the glycosphingolipids and subsequently extracting and removing fatty acid methyl ester and free fatty acid from the hydrolysate. The resulting extract has a high intestinal hormone secretagogue function per calorie or per molecule (per number of moles), and is less readily absorbed from the intestinal tract, and is therefore useful as a functional food or pharmaceutical active ingredient that can be made available for preventing or treating obesity, diabetes, or enteropathy. |
