The purpose of the present invention is to provide a magnetic recording medium that enables a head flying height to be reduced. This magnetic recording medium has a non-magnetic substrate, a base layer, a magnetic layer, a carbon-containing protective layer, and a lubrication layer that is made of a mixture of a lubricant represented by formula (I) and a lubricant represented by formula (II).
