PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element with high luminous efficiency and a long life.SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element has one or more organic layers including a light emitting layer, which are interposed between a positive electrode and a negative electrode. At least one of the organic layers contains an organometallic complex represented by the general formula (1). [The ring A and the ring B each represent a 5- or 6-membered aromatic hydrocarbon ring or aromatic heterocycle; L represents a monoanionic bidentate ligand; M represents a transition metal atom which belongs to group 8 to 10 in the periodic table; V represents a linking unit which crosslinks ligands.]
